Idaho crime rate down 2 percent in 2014

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- Overall crime rate has decreased by 1.9 percent, according to the 2014 "Crime In Idaho" report released Wednesday.

Crimes against property, classified as a Group "A" Offense, went down 4.6 percent.

Idaho State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification said that differences from 2013 are seen in Group "A" Offenses, violent crimes, hate crimes and crimes against law enforcement.

The number crimes against people slightly increased by 0.8 percent and crimes against society increased 2.2 percent, both Group "A" Offenses.

The biggest change from 2013 to 2014 was the number of reported hate crimes, which decreased by 18 percent.

The number of violent crimes have also reduced in the last year by 1.6 percent. Idaho is ranked 43rd among violent crimes in the U.S., according to the "Crime In U.S. 2013."
