His mother, Alma Elaine (née Donnelly; 1942–2021), worked as a bank clerk and a nurse’s aide, while his father, Donald Edmond Wahlberg Sr. (1930–2008), served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War. When his parents divorced in 1982, he split his time between them.

Regarding his ancestry, Wahlberg’s father’s side is of Swedish descent while his paternal grandmother was of Irish origin.
